Tune in to 96.5FM and you'll get a good signal throughout most of the eastern side of the island and across to the mainland at Toward Point, Wemyss Bay, Skelmorlie and possibly Largs. Signal can get a bit patchy to the west and south of the island, but you can always listen over the internet where you have a 3G/4G or wifi signal.

Volunteers are always welcomed - either behind the scenes with technical aspects or administration, or as a presenter. Experience isn't necessary - just plenty of enthusiasm and an appreciation of the genres of music typically played. For more information contact admin@buteislandradio.com

Totally eclectic and always entertaining
Listening to Bute Island Radio always provokes nostalgic memories of road trips around the highlands in the 80s and 90s, when the car stereo was just a hiss as we left the national stations behind after passing Loch Lomond. Every now and then a local station would pop up for a few minutes before fading at the next loch or mountain. The music always a million miles from the curated playlists of the BBC or the ad-soaked drivel pumped out by the commercial stations. A bit like peeking through a window at a village hall ceilidh, just for a fleeting moment.
Fast forward to today, and Bute Island Radio is so reminiscent of those snatched moments of joy. Staffed by volunteers with a free reign to play whatever takes their fancy, eclectic is definitely the single best adjective. You never quite know what's coming next, but you can guarantee it'll be good. Always worth tuning in at any time of day.
