Community Asset Ideas?

The Anchor Tavern in Port Bannatyne was purchased by the local community in 2021. The pub had been closed for several years, and the community was concerned that it would be lost to the area. The Port's most recent pub, The Port Inn, had recently closed following a string of retail business closures in the area over the previous decades.

A group of residents formed the Port Bannatyne Development Trust (PBDT) with the aim of buying the pub and reopening it as a community-owned asset. The trust raised over £150,000 from local people and businesses, and the pub was purchased in September 2021.

The Anchor Tavern is now open and thriving as a community hub. The pub hosts a range of events and activities, including live music, comedy nights, and community meals. It is also a popular spot for locals to meet up and socialise.

The community purchase of the Anchor Tavern is a success story for the Isle of Bute. It shows that local people are passionate about their community and are willing to work together to make a difference. It also shows that community ownership can be a successful model for the future of pubs and other community assets.
